Adriana drives her six-year-old son to school. As usual, she parks and prays before she lets him go. But on this day, Josue interrupts her prayer, “Mom, we got to pray for Daddy because they want to kill him.” Marcela eyes light up, “What are you talking about.”
“Mom, bad men want to kill Daddy. We got to pray.”
And they did.
The father, Andrés, told his police commander that the Lord told him not to go on patrol in the town (he knew nothing of his son’s prayer). The boss told him to cut out the religious stuff, get a grip and go on the patrol.
That afternoon, the bad guys from a drug gang ambushed his patrol car with gunfire and grenades. A bullet ripped through his chest and fragments from the grenade tore his lips and eyelids. Andres only remembered waking up on the medical helicopter and God telling him,
“You are my beloved son“.
A week before this whole mess, Andrés shared with pastor Marilí about his struggles with the other police, especially with the commander. Marilí, a pastor in the church who is prophetically sensitive, told Andrés that God is about to do something that will turn the hearts of his companions and the commander.
The doctors, Colombian experts in gun wounds, were amazed the bullet missed the vital organs, and the grenade fragment only cut his eyelid but not his eye, and cut his lips without knocking out his teeth. His commander came to his bedside begging forgiveness for belittling his God and making him go out there.
Four days later, Andrés is telling the church how his son’s prayer saved his life. He is a tough cop but the kindness of Jesus shattered him.
When he gets back to work, we will hear about how this will impact the police station. There will not be one cop brave enough to tell his son that prayer didn’t have anything to do with it. And, I told Marilí not to prophesy over me; I didn’t want to get shot to prove a point.

About Team McMillan:
In 1994, the McMillan family traveled to the kidnapping, murder, and drug capital of the western hemisphere to plant a church and a foundation. God thought Medellin, Colombia a good place to raise a family. And turns out He was right (as He usually is). It became a very large family: The church, Comunidad (Community), is now the largest church in Medellin with over 8,000 members, the Foundation, Viento Fresco, cares for over 150 high-risk children, and a non-profit coffee shop, New Hearts Cafe, serves cups of caffeine and the love of Jesus to thousands of college students.
God is doing so much in Medellin, and we write about here on the Teammcmillan.org blog!
